Wellington has a thriving theatre scene. Producing and presenting annual seasons of work alongside Circa are: Downstage Theatre, BATS Theatre, Capital E's National Theatre for Children, Taki Rua Productions (who formerly ran the now demolished Depot Theatre on Alpha St), the St James Theatre and The Opera House. There are also numerous independent theatre production companies, arts festivals, and several community theatres. On any one night in Wellington you can have several choices of theatre entertainment – quite an achievement for a city of only 400,000!
Wellington is not only the political Capital it’s also the arts capital of New Zealand. Along with the professional theatres there is ballet, opera, concerts, galleries, contemporary music venues and a thriving night life where there is a choice of hundreds of bars and restaurants. Its really is a fantastic city!
